Redline Board Game
2023, Print, Photoshop / InDesign
Redline is an interactive board game for adults where the players take an adventure across Chicago. Instead of playing on a board indoors, the city of Chicago is transformed into the board and the players become the pieces. PLayers are split into two groups and each group is given a game pack. Each pack comes with instructions, a map, 37 activity cards, and a spinner.
To play, both teams must agree on a time limit to complete the tasks, for the full experience at least 8 hours is suggested. The groups follow their maps along the CTA red line train and complete three tasks of varying difficulty at each stop. Tasks can be skipped, but they carry time penalties for skipping them. There are also bonus tasks that take longer than average tasks, so they carry no time penalty to skip, but have higher point rewards. This includes activities like going to a Cubs game for at least three innings. Each task completed gives the team points and the team with the most points once time has run out wins.
Activities range in difficulty from things as simple as touching the bean all the way to spinning the spinner for the number of pints of Guinness the group needs to collectively drink at an Irish pub.
All activity cards are designed based off of retro CTA cards. The cards list the station the activity is to be completed at, along with the point value and time penalty for each activity.
The map given to players is 28in x 28in and has the nine main stops players have activities at. On the map the photos correspond with each location they are near, giving the players clues as to what they should be looking for.
