Subway Scramble

Subway Scramble is a trailer for a video game concept based on my experience riding and navigating the New York City subway alone for the first time. The story follows a younger version of myself who is taking the train from school in the Bronx to Grandma’s apartment on the other side of the city in Brooklyn.

The trailer uses animations, text cards, short gameplay clips, and UI demos to give a glimpse into both the game and the story behind it. I used just about every program I have any experience with to generate parts of the trailer, finally compiling them all together in Premiere Pro for the final trailer. The music added are instrumentals from two of the most influential New York rappers of all time. First it is from A Tribe Called Quest’s “Excursions”, followed by Nas’s “N.Y. State of Mind”.

Along with the trailer, a game case was designed as well. The case was designed to be for a Nintendo Switch game, following the dimensions of that system’s cases. The case also has an insert with an illustration of New York City that is labeled with the locations of the five boroughs and New Jersey.
